The overall objective of this assignment was to support the Funders with Technical Due Diligence (TDD) services on a phase-by-phase basis for greenfield Mini-Grid (“MG”) projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), developed by Congo Energy Solutions Limited (“Nuru”). The Funders were considering financing the construction, operation, and ownership of the following MG Projects: Kindu (2MW), Bunia (8MW) and Goma ext. (3.7MW) and the refinancing of the Goma 1 project (1.3MW), already operational. The services covered a thorough review and assessment of Solar PV contractor’s documentation, for the overall supply chain for the MG projects targeted, including the energy production solutions, that is, solar panels, batteries, fuel-powered generators and distribution lines. For the 4 mini-grids, activities included market and energy demand assessment and forecast, review of various aspects such as productive uses, sizing, site assessment, technology and design review, project participants assessment, permits and authorization, agreements, financial model, among others. Elaboration of a Technical Due Diligence (TDD) Report for the Funders, including summary of findings. conclusions and actions to be considered for investment purposes.
